Shirodhara

Shirodhara is a technique used in Ayurvedic medicine. It involves pouring different liquids over the forehead to heal various conditions.

Shirodhara is used for hayfever (allergic rhinitis), swollen sinuses (sinusitis), trouble sleeping (insomnia), ringing in the ears (tinnitus), dizziness (vertigo), a balance disorder called Meniere's disease, hearing loss, memory loss, and other conditions.

Shirodhara is becoming increasingly popular in day spas, especially in North America, where it is used to relieve fatigue and promote relaxation.

Shirodhara is a technique used in Ayurvedic medicine. Shirodhara literally means “head flow.” Shirodhara involves the patient laying face up in a relaxing environment while a variety of liquids are gently flowed over the forehead. Different liquids are used depending on the conditions being treated. Commonly used liquids include water, various oils, buttermilk, or coconut water.

There is no scientific information about how shirodhara might work for treating medical conditions.

Shirodhara is POSSIBLY SAFE when used appropriately. No adverse effects have been reported in research.
